Why did I choose China to study Kung Fu?

It has been my and my brother’s childhood dream, and also part of my acting career. Coming to China to train at Kunyu Mountain Martial Arts Academy made that dream possible.

What is your greatest gain from your martial arts training?

My greatest gains: discipline, mental growth, happiness, love, strength, skill and self-management.

Who influenced and helped you during your period in the academy?

All the coaches and Shifus, and fellow students: Alexander, Lilly, Anton, Shivam, Andrew, Rafael, Jeremy, Ella, Alice, Hanna, Gary, Mohamed, and almost everyone else in one way or another.

Brief summary of my experience in the academy:

It has brought the discipline and calm I need. I was excited every day to get up and train because of how the masters made it to be. The translators have been a big help with daily life as well, not just during martial arts training.

What do you think about the surroundings of the academy?

Love it. Just love it. I will come back soon.

Why China Kunyu mountain ?

When I was a kid, Kung Fu and Chinese martial arts were popular in Russia. But I was never motivated just to fight well. For me, it was something more spiritual — about internal qualities. I remember myself at a very young age watching Chinese monks on TV touching a point between the eyebrows to calm someone down. Since then (I was about 6–7 years old), I decided that one day I would go to China, live with monks and practice Kung Fu, grow spiritually, and I told my parents. I also watched all the Ip Man movies. Coming to Kunyu Mountain Martial Arts Academy felt like fulfilling that childhood dream.

What is your greatest gain from your martial arts training?

My greatest gain in training here is realizing that it’s always you against you. I was proud of myself when I ran all the way to the 1st gate and 2nd gate and never stopped. During that time, I learned to be more gentle and in touch with myself. When I first got injured, I felt discomfort but continued training. During my period, it became worse and I had to stop. I learned that I am capable of a lot — but I also need to be more careful. Who influenced and helped you during your period in the academy? Our Wing Chun coach helped a lot by keeping a good balance between pushing forward and carefulness. Rasha and Ivonick were helpful in the first days. But more than anyone, I want to say thanks to Jeremy and Mouss. Jeremy was really helpful during training. He is a good teacher and a perfect running partner (grateful for his pushing me forward). He also has a beautiful and kind soul as a person. Mouss helped me a lot in Tai Chi and stretching. He has a peaceful mind — everyone wants to hug him or stay near him.

Brief summary of my experience in the academy:In the academy, you have a really good schedule for the day. The food is balanced, and the training is intensive, but at the same time we always had breaks for 10–15 minutes. I was impressed by our Shifu and coaches’ skills in martial arts. It was an honour to be their student. Thank you to the translators at every session. In total, it’s a positive energy flow here, and I enjoyed every detail of my time.

What do you think about the surroundings of the academy?

The mountain view during my winter period here was stunning. Fresh air during our walks and runs, kind people in the village, and adorable dogs and cats. Big xie-xie to everyone at Kunyu Mountain Martial Arts Academy. You deeply touched my heart. I hope I will have a chance to visit again for a longer period to gain deeper knowledge. P.S. I’m really grateful to Lauren from the Shaolin group. She’s really kind and helped not just with words but with actions — especially buying houses for the cats. I hope eventually they all get vaccinated and sterilized.
